April 9, 2015

fire damageCalifornia goes by many names, such as Golden State and the land of sunshine, but on April 7, 2015 that was a different story for an elderly woman in the town of Oxnard.

According to authorities, the fire was started when the woman lit a fire in her fireplace, and one of the flaming logs rolled out onto her living room floor.

From there, the fire spread to the nearby couch, and the rest was up in flames.

This love seat inferno ended up causing $370,000 worth of fire damage to the elderly woman’s home. The fire caused $350,000 in structural damage to the home, and a further $20,000 in contents damage, for a grand total of $370,000.

When firefighters arrived they found that the rear of the home was up in flames. It took firefighters around 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Luckily the 69-year-old who was inside the house was escorted from the burning home and treated for minor smoke inhalation. She denied any further medical treatment and appears to be in good health.
Although this story has a happy ending, this incident goes to show that even the slightest accident can cause devastating fire damage to a home, whether it be in Michigan or California. Fire damage is not something to take lightly.
To protect your home from fire, make sure you have smoke detectors installed throughout your home and try to have fire resistant furniture and carpet. Make sure you have a disaster plan with your family just in case a fire or emergency dos occur with in your home.
