If your house was built before the 1980s it most certainly has lead paint somewhere in the home. Lead paint was banned because of its toxic properties, and you can test for it wit a kit at your local hardware store. Volatile Chemicals
If you are thinking about getting new furniture, paint, or carpet? It is most likely that these materials contain volatile organic compounds, a.k.a.VOCs. These compounds break down, releasing gases into the air that cause sore throats, headache, and other ailments. The best way to mititage the effects of VOCs is to make sure that a newly renovated room is well ventaliated for at least a week after work has been completed. You can also buy no or low VOC products as well.
